HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY SHOES?

For oily leathers and waxed crust, we recommend cleaning the leather with a damp sponge then applying a colorless grease using a soft cloth. To remove any scratches, apply a small amount of shoe polish. We do not recommend the use of Sapo grease because to soften the leather, it breaks its fibers and thus alters its integrity. Prefer natural greases such as you can find on our site in the Care and repair section. Note: if you do not wear your shoes for a long time, a thin white film may appear, which emanates from the leather and helps protect it. To remove it, you can wipe your shoes with a soft cloth or heat them with a hairdryer to make the grease penetrate the leather again.

For Camargue croupon, velvet or glittered leathers, it is essential to apply a waterproofing agent before the first use in order to protect your shoe from liquids which could stain them. However, to remove stains, you can use a sponge and soap. If this is not enough, you will need to brush the leather with a soft metal brush (brass for example), or use a suede eraser or even very fine-grained abrasive paper.

For greasy stains, you can apply a dry stain remover, gasoline F, or Terre de Sommières®. We advise you to test the behavior of the product on an inconspicuous part of the shoe before applying it to the entire surface.

For python print leathers and leathers with hair, they should be waterproofed with an aerosol spray or a solvent-free waterproofing spray , before wearing them for the first time. You can also use a comb to clean the hairs.

Note: During the first few days of using your pair of boots or ankle boots, your heel may rise slightly inside the boot. This transient phenomenon (around 10 days) is completely normal: the sole is made up of different thicknesses of leather which make it very rigid. It takes time to “break in” the sole and soften it. After this period, the de-tailing disappears. If this heel drop is too significant, it is possible that the fit is not suitable (shoe size too large or instep too thin). In this case, contact our customer service by email at info@labottegardiane.com .

CUSTOM-MADE: HOW TO TAKE MY MEASUREMENTS?

If you would like to order custom-made boots, download our made-to-measure guide and follow the step-by-step instructions. We also offer you below some instructions for taking your measurements.

‍ Measuring the perimeter of your calf:

It is recommended to take this measurement sitting, barefoot, checking that your foot is flat on the ground. Measure the circumference of your calf, where it is strongest, taking into account the height of the boot.

Measuring the height of your boot:

To take this measurement, you must be standing straight, barefoot, with your foot flat on the ground. For greater ease, ask a third person to measure, on the profile of your leg, the height you want from the ground. The maximum boot height is 3 cm below the hollow of the knee because a boot going into the hollow of the knee could cause discomfort when squatting. Note that this measurement does not take into account the total height of the boot (including sole and heel).

Measuring the instep:

Concerning the instep, the simplest thing is to determine whether with other shoes you have noticed that you have a thin, strong, or rather normal instep. If in doubt, do not hesitate to contact our customer service by email at info@labottegardiane.com .
